I loved it. And to be fair, the visuals were beyond stunning when it first came out. As for the big plot twist, I for one never saw it coming. And it was an interesting meta take on the illusion of choice in gaming.

If you have not tried the sequels, I can sum them up quick: Bioshock 2 had fun multiplayer but the campaign felt derivative, just a mirror reflection where the propaganda is super socialist instead of super libertarian. Not bad, but OK to skip. Bioshock Infinite, though, is a total head trip that is utterly fascinating, if occasionally dense (it puts the physics in metaphysics, to be sure). I still mull over the ending every now and then. And Elizabeth is a revelation as far as what a support NPC should be. Doesn't have to be protected constantly, provides help without being annoying, is written realistically...why couldn't it always be this way? It is a must-play. And since it does not reference Bioshock 2 at all, all the more reason to skip that one.

I do agree with you that the no-penalty respawn was dumb. Why didn't all the people you killed get brought back in the same way? It just could have been handled better.
