I just got back from my Central American adventure! I went solo this time with no sidekicks and had a lot of fun. I got to see the remnants of a recent volcano eruption from last year in El Salvidor. Gang and drug violence is CRAZY there. It's not fair to the people trying to live normal and honest lives. I think America should be the hero and let these people come here. I can't believe we are deporting people back to certain death. Other than the warnings, shootings and blatant tourist traps, I had a blast. Next up, Brazil! Look out Sao Paulo, here I come!

Wow, travelling alone to El Salvador is something. I don't know if I'd dare to go alone, but then again, I'm not Super (yet), so it figures.

I didn't WANT to go alone but I have to sometimes if I want to see every country in the world before I focus on space. Not everyone can travel as much because they have a job that requires them to show up. I don't know how they do it!

Well, we already know the vacation time is excellent for hero. How are the medical benefits? I assume it includes dental since it is hard to be taken seriously as a hero when you have bad teeth.

The benefits are dependant on how good of a hero you are. If you're the very best like no one ever was, you get super coverage.

Here's a few pictures from my trip to Tunisia. As you can see, I'm not the beach guy, I love to see new cultures.

We went to see some ancient Roman ruins, I find all that stuff fascinating.
Image
Image
Image

This is a typical Tunisian street. Totally different to anything I've ever seen.
Image
Image

Next up we visited the Great Mosque of Kairouan. It is one of the most important mosques in Tunisia, and it is one of the oldest places of worship in the Islamic world.
Image

Next up The Ampitheatre of El Djem, my favourite!!. The amphitheatre was built around 238 AD, when the modern Tunisia belonged to the Roman province of Africa. It is one of the best preserved Roman ruins in the world, and is unique in Africa. As other amphitheatres in the Roman Empire, it was built for spectator events, and it is one of the biggest amphitheatres in the world.

Next up we did Egypt. I had all kinds of plans, we were going to go see the pyramids and everything. Terrorists soon stopped that, there were people on every corner with guns and we could only leave the hotel with a guide.

I did go snorkelling and scuba diving but I didn't get any pictures :(

On the way there we flew over the Suez canal. Yeah, I'm a geek, I know.
Image

We were pretty much limited to the hotel grounds and surrounding area so these pics aren't much to look at. The hotel did put the Hull City games on for me though. I made two good friends who worked there and they got us everything we asked for. Here I am watching Hull in the rooftop bar.
Image
The hotel was nice, with its own private beach.
Image
Image
Image
Image

About the only thing we could do was relax by the pool and beach. You could see some fish by the jetty though.
Image

I doubt we will ever go back.

Next up was a trip to Tenerife. It was recommended by my mother who goes every year without fail and I really like it. This trip though we stayed in the wrong place, it was too touristy and we were getting hassled by street sellers every five seconds. We stayed in Las Americas but you want to go either side of it if you ever go, Los Cristianos or Costa Adeje are far, far places. We learned our lesson as you will see in one of my later posts

Image
Image
Image

I held a golden eagle and the wife a parrot.
Image
Image

We also went whale and dolphin watching. It was brilliant, but my photos are pretty crap, it was much better than the photos suggest.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

If you ever go to Las Americas keep an eye out for this fountain. It's more or less directly opposite the Hard Rock Cafe. Just on the next level there is the best Italian restaurant I have ever been too called Biancos. Trust me, it's awesome! We went again when we went back as you will see. The fountain also dances to the music by the way, it has all kinds of things going on, it's really cool.

Next up was a surprise holiday for my wifes 30th. If that surprise wasn't enough you should have seen her face when her mum, dad, aunt and uncle jumped out as we walked in to the hotel reception

The hotel is the best I've ever stayed in that costs less than £1000 a week, it is simply fantastic. It's called Paradise Park, check it out on Tripadvisor. It's so good we're going again in April. They had this waiting for us in our room.
Image
Strangely I don't have many pictures of the hotel. This was taken from the rooftop bar.
Image
Me by the pool.
Image

Recognise this fountain?
Image
Biancos!! They were great, they all sang her happy birthday and brought out a cake. They didn't ask, they must have seen her 30th badge or heard us talking.
Image
Image

The wife and I went out alone on her actual birthday, I said money is no object, just do whatever you want! So we went down the strip with all the expensive places such as Hard Rock Cafe. It was about £10 a drink but we had a great time trying all the different cocktails.
I asked for a vodka martini shaken not stirred and the barmaid didn't bat an eyelid, I think she'd heard that one before....
Image
No idea what that one was.
Image
This one had Jack Daniels, southern comfort and ginger beer amongst other things. It was my favourite.
Image

Another reason why I love the hotel so much is that right next door there is La Pepa foodmarket. Undeground there is a supermarket, very handy. On the next level is a selection of restaurants. On the top deck though it was brilliant! Inside there is a selection of, I dunno, 20 or so different food stalls. There is literally everything in there, you name it, it's there. I'd never had Japanese before so got this and it was delicious.
Image
Outside is a huge seating area and a couple of bars. They have a huge TV and have live bands on every other night. All the locals seem to go there to hang out and the atmosphere is great. I don't have any pictures from the night time just a few from the day.

I was involved in a huge car crash after this and was almost killed. The police told me if I hadn't been in a Volvo I'd definitely be dead. I wasn't seriously injured but couldn't sleep for months, everytime I moved my neck hurt and woke me up, I was under massive pressure at work and was having a really shit time. Eventually I got myself fit but the damage at work was already done, they didn't cut me any slack whatsoever, they expected 100% from me even though I couldn't. I told them to stick their job up their arse and walked into the garage next door and got hired instantly.

Once I was out of there it was a huge relief, and I booked us a week in Menorca to relax after the stressful months we'd just had. We went to a place called Cala'n Bosch. Here's the marina surrounded by all the bars and restaurants.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Don't go there, ever. No really! All there is in Cala'n Bosch is that marina and those bars so they charge £5 a drink. I refused to pay that, in Tenerife it was only £1-2 a drink. Luckily we were all inclusive so had free beer at the hotel.
The hotel was quite nice but it was in a quiet area, we were starting to get bored.
Image
So we went Ciutadella next. It was a better place, more to see and felt more Spanish.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

The next day we walked along the coast as far as we could taking in all the scenery, which I admit, I loved.
Image

Anyway, we ended in Son Xoriguer and stumbled across this totally unassuming little restaurant called Dulcinea. It was the best thing we experienced in Menorca and instead of eating for free at the hotel we ate there for the last four nights of our holiday. The owner Charlie is a lovely man too. If you ever go please go try this place out.
Image
Image
Image

I would never go back to Cala'n Bosch but maybe I would go back to Menorca, if I got offered a really cheap deal or something.

When I was about 7 my grandparents took me to Torremolinos, so when I got the news my grandad was dying I booked us a couple of weeks in the exact same hotel we'd stayed in back in the 80s. The morning we were due to fly my grandad was serious, I went to see him and told him were we were going and he told me to have a good time and show him the pictures when we got back. I said Ok gramps, see you in two weeks, and that was the last time I saw him.

The hotel was shit lol, but we didn't mind, we went out everyday. It's a nice place and absolutely huge!

There's a place called Benalmadena just up the road which had a nice marina surrounded by restaurants and shops just like Cala'n Bosch, but this was much better. Back to £2 a beer.

We tried many restaurants, but the best by miles is a place called La Piazetta. You can sit out in the courtyard by a fountain, it's really romantic. Again, if you ever go I recommend this place.
Image

I'd go back there, definitely. I know the best places now and would choose a better hotel, it'd be a much better holiday if we went back.

I almost forgot to tell you about Crocodile Park! We spent half a day there, it was brilliant! The guy who did the guided tour was very good, he let us throw chicken to the crocs to eat.

Heh, you really went to lots of places. Thanks for sharing these photos. Glad you had so much fun. That amphitheatre looks really cool. And Tenerife and Menorca are stellar. I really like the Mediterranean... You would enjoy Malta, I'm quite sure.

How did you find the crocodile place? Any ManCannons in the wild there?

I was looking for the waterpark my grandparents took me to when I was a kid and the crocodile place was next door so we went in. It was really, really good. The biggest croc there was over 6 metres! I have some videos I will link you too tomorrow, the guide feeds them and stuff, it's amazing to see how powerful they are up close, we were like 2 metres away max.

I think ManCannon was eaten long ago.

One day we were talking and the wife said she was nearly born in Gibraltar, her parents almost moved there. Once I get something in my head and start thinking about it there's no stopping me, so off I went.

It's tiny, you could walk around everything in a couple of days no problem. But there is soooo much history.

lol, monkeys are hilarious. These ones looks a lot like the Japanese monkeys we saw in Nagano back in the day. Really playful, but you'd better not mess with them much or they'll get angry.

BTW, if you want to write a short article about one or more of the places you went to for the main site, illustrating with some of these photos, you're more than welcome to.

Yeah, I might do. I've been tons of other places too that might be more interesting to your readers such as Auschwitz, Dachau, Omaha beach etc etc.
Have a look through my albums and see what might be the most interesting. This link should work, I think.
