One reason why I liked Tropico 3 so much was because of the voice actor/actress. There was a radio DJ woman that always complained about the CIA and oppressive governments. Although they did the dialogue in a mocking/outrageous sort of way, maybe those were actual views shared by the game developers. Games with lots of political intrigues are pretty good imo. ;)

I should play these Tropico games by the Bulgarians one of these days...

someone on GameTZ.com said I should try P5, while another person said P5 is the best game ever.

Maybe if I had a PS3.. but it's a good thing I don't have one otherwise I'd work on my game less. Although I wouldn't shell out $60 for P5, I'd play older games like FF13 and anything cheap I can get my hands on.

Good point. If I buy games, unless it's something I'm crazy about like Metal Gear, I also wait until they get half price of less.

I only wish there was more variety in the Tropico games. It gets quite repetitive after a while (laying out buildings and roads) but it's still enjoyable. I suppose it's the same with stuff like Starcraft/Warcraft but those have more of a combat element which keeps it exciting (for those that enjoy warfare and battles). There is a bit of combat in Tropico too but just small gunfights and you don't really control any of the units.

Most campaign missions are a race against the clock....but since you can pause it's not that challenging as long as you know what buildings to build and where.

I avoided talking about Tactics Ogre because I don't want to offend Vlado. That's why I've only been mentioning FFT and Jeanne. But I've tried Tactics Ogre twice now and it's a pretty hot mess. I can't even play it. I'm considering starting it over from the beginning though just to see if I missed anything in the tutorial battles which is when the guests characters break the fourth wall and start dictating the entire instruction manual to you. Not just how battles work, but everything. (Seriously!)

I'm curious in the SNES and PS1 versions now because something about the PSP version seems off. The game has SNES graphics but there's some kind of blur filter in place meanwhile spell effects are super crisp and feel incredibly out of place.

I tried Jeanne again as well, turns out there is a way to level but the game is still pretty meh. It is no FFT by any means.
The turn system in FFT is superior, in Jeanne and TO it does it in a way where enemies go all at once, then all your units go at once, etc. so it ends up being much slower. What a disappointment.

Huh. In Tactics Ogre, it definitely wasn't all your units after all the enemy units, etc. If you look at youtube videos, you'll see it's mixed. Must've been the concrete battle/battles you fought.

Even more HOI3 though i really need a break now, as i am reaching november 1943. Got a ceasefire with soviet union changing border to a eastern karelia in the north to crimea in the south line, annexed turkey and declared war on portugal. Getting tired from relocating my forces to the locations for planned invasions in north america and north africa. Why i not activate the AI option? :x AI is too stupid to handle my 15 armies, making tourists out of them literally running all over europe without any porpose. :?

Currently playing Wipeout Pulse now that I've beaten Wipeout Pure. Truth be told, I've played Pulse before, but it's been so many years ago that the game feels almost completely new to me.

Anyway, I was considering putting Wipeout 1-3 on my mem stick, but then I realized I'd have to play with dpad. For that reason alone, I think I might hold off on them.
(would I really have to use the dpad though? I'm actually not sure if PSP supports dual shock when emulating PS1 games, but even if it does, I don't think the first two games supported it, and the first game definitely couldn't have)

I'm not playing but dreaming about Phantasy Star III. I dreamt I found a huge hint book about it in a library. Funny I've only read about it and its generation system. Played the original one but never got around to all the others. Think maybe I tried #2 but gave up pretty quickly.

Its Wikipedia article says that there are two sisters with the same name in the game. Would you give your children the same names as each other?

on that note, I gave my character a name which turned out to be shared by someone else that appears much later in the game. It was hilarious, there were times it wasn't exactly clear which one of us the other characters were talking to.

It makes me wonder if games should have a filter to make sure you don't share a name with another character. (either by forcing you to pick a different name, or by storing alternate names for each of the other characters) I was also wondering if I would have something like this in my Pokemon game idea if I ever make it. It would be kind of clunky though, the only way I could think of implementing it is to let the player name himself/herself, then asking the player what's the first letter of the name he picked, then showing a list of names that start with that letter and asking the player if his name is any of those, and the player picks yes, I give him the option of changing his name. o.O

hmm, if the backup name idea was used in a popular game, there would probably be hardcore fans building wiki articles containing all the backup names for each character.

Well I was enjoying Skyrim: Special Edition (haven't played Skyrim since the brief time I spent with it in late 2013) but the ****ing game crashed on me in the second town and the free trial on steam is over :( ... eh I'll probably wait a bit before I play it again if ever (Time for American Truck Simulator instead  ).

Skyrim is pretty enough and now I kind of understand why it's held onto it's number 1 ranking on GameFAQs for so long (even if it was displaced for a few weeks by new releases and such). With mods and such the game can go on for a long time right? Who here has played it extensively?

I kind of liked Oblivion, but it wasn't amazing enough to sell me on the franchise. I'm just not that into open-world games, I suppose.

Yeah I didn't really like Oblivion either but I was considering reinstalling it the other day along with the first expansion to play the game through more slowly (go through more of the villages and what not). The thing that turned me off about the game the most was the Oblivion portals and the bloody/dark palettes in those worlds. I think the red/bloody/shadowy/dreary colors made me sick of the game.

Skyrim was much more beautiful in comparison so far. Nice snowy mountains and forests. Kind of like Skellige from Witcher 3 in the first part. Vibrant colors and aesthetics really help to sell games imo. Consider games like Breath of the Wild and the main character Link wears green, which is a traditionally eye-pleasing color (think green lawns, fields, vegetables, forests, leaves etc.) Oblivion opened up in a nasty looking dungeon and it's main city afterwards wasn't very cheerful imo. Then the Oblivion portals were just ugh  yeah i'm definitely not a fan of the horror/extreme gore genre. Skyrim was pretty gory too in the first part but it got better afterwards.

I bought the 360 version of Oblivion back in 2006, played it for like an hour and sold it. I think it was one of the last times I ever paid for a full price current gen console game.
