Has Vita been turned into an emulation machine like the PSP yet? If so, it might be worth it.

Forgot about this thread. With loot boxes and similar shitty business practices the future looks bleak.

Nod you're right about streaming being the future but Internet does have to get better especially in America for it to take off. By that point i'll probably be out of gaming though.

Hah, lootboxes. I have never seen one before. I hope it stays that way. Streaming onnly would suck. If you find a game you really love you can't keep it and when it's no longer streamable it will just dissappear. That's pretty bad for future gaming history.

@ vlad:

Yeah vita could be worth it if it gets really cheap. :-)

This is why I have downloaded every game ever Klem, I can't bear to lose all my childhood favourites forever.

I'm quite happy with streaming now, it took a while to adjust and accept it but it'll be neat. With no used game sales though game sales will drop dramatically, many people will quit the expensive hobby. I expect big changes to the industry.

Talking about streaming how well does it work? Recogniced a few days ago an option on steam looking on my laptop to stream installed games from my desktop! Was just surprised as desktop has a wired connection with internet and laptop is wireless.

It works really well. I used PS Now for a short while and it's just full games streamed directly to your console, it plays exactly the same.

But you'll have to have internet to play the games. That sucks. What if your internet is out? No matter how shit your internet is, a snes will always work.

I doubt it will be cheaper for us. Why would they ask less money if they can get a premium? I like 2nd hand. Almost all my games are 2nd hand. Nice and cheap and I get to laugh at the previous owners save files.
I don't think I'd ever pay for a streaming service. I don't want to pay for something that I cannot own. Then I'd just pirate the games or something or just not buy them anymore. There are enough physical games in existence to last me a lifetime.

Think of it like Netflix. I pay £7 a month and the stuff I want is there when I want to watch it, not at 5pm on normal TV when I'm still at work. I don't know how the pricing will work but £50 a game like now certainly won't.

How microtransactions and in-game currencies can be used to launder money https://www.pcgamer.com/how-microtransactions-and-in-game-currencies-can-be-used-to-launder-money/

Yes, it's funny cuz even in cute old (and free to play) Dungeons and Dragons Online there are money laundering related quests and also a "Coin Lords" faction that gives bags to players. Then there's also the banking faction of House Kundarak

I love it when game companies recycle their assets into other games and they make little to no attempts to hide the fact.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/208520/Omerta__City_of_Gangsters/

You can tell this Omerta game uses the Tropico 3/4 engine and assets. It's almost like a "dark" themed version of Tropico but not that dark since Tropico was pretty bright.

Same developer Haemimont Games of course. Tropico 3 came out in 2009 and this Omerta came out in 2013. But you expect this old tradition/trend to continue way into the future.

It was obvious with games like Final Fantasy I, II, II then IV and V. I'd say VI was in its own category then you didn't see too much asset recycling later on. Haven't opened my FFXV to compare it with FFXIII yet though.

I like it when assets are recycled into slightly different genres though like Haemimont Games did.

I heard about Google stradia and it sounds like what I predicted will come true. Everybody will just stream games next gen, it's cheaper and easier.

Well... It'll suffice for casual gamers, at least.
