I read this article about Mortal Kombat developers having strange emotional reactions to animating the gore scenes.
https://kotaku.com/id-have-these-extremely-graphic-dreams-what-its-like-t-1834611691

I don't think the guys working there are very happy. It sounds like a toxic work place. The higher ups also don't seem very empathic. I can imagine watching ultraviolent real life deaths and slaughterhouse footage every day for refference material will fuck with you bigtime. The player only sees the death scenes for a moment but the animators look at this shit every day the entire day and when they get home they still think about it.

I have little sympathy for them. They knew what they were doing when they signed up for that job. Just like with soldiers (unless conscripted but hey some people just desert or escape) and strippers and that sort of thing.

"For the wages of sin is death ... "

Ezekiel 11:21 But as for them whose heart walketh after the heart of their detestable things and their abominations, I will recompense their way upon their own heads, saith the Lord God.

Well that's a bit heartless to say don't you think? I don't think those animators could have seen it coming and even if they did, it's in no way an excuse for the higher ups not to rethink their strategy. The work is actually harming these people. It's distroying their sense of empathy. You cannot forsee animating violence will have such a bad effect on you. Games have only recently become so realistic that they do mirror real life and require the viewing of real life gore. Their psychological reaction to the work sounds a lot like the reactions of slaughterhouse workers. That's pretty fucked up and it's just a fictional game. No need fot it to be that fucked up.

I wonder now if playing these types of games also has negative impacts on the player. I personally do not like violent games. They make me stressed out. I don't even like cartoon violence most of the time. I need more chill games like rollrecoaster tycoon or proteus. Games suitable for little babies like me. But there are not a lot of games without combat. I wish there were.

Violence does affect your mind. When I used to do MMA I was a bit of a cunt, I'd fight anybody who looked at me wrong. Because I was training everyday it was just normal life, an everyday acceptable thing to punch people in the nose. Of course at the time I couldn't see anything wrong, it's only now I look back and cringe. I guess the same would apply to anything you do everyday, psychologically deep down somewhere something will be happening. Everybody knows right from wrong but you kinda desensitize to it.

This is a really good topic. People act like violence in videogames is not a big deal, but this is an unforeseen consequence. I wonder, there might even be people out there who did this for one game so now employers want them to do it for the next game. They are stuck doing it unless they quit the industry altogether.

Yeah I also feel like violence does effect people. I used to play pretty gory games as a young teen (because it was cool or something). I also acted like it was no big deal. I played games like resident evil 4 and Prince of Persia Warrior within and others I can't remember. It's exciting I guess when you're in puberty to see such things but it did not make me a better person I think. I recently poped in resident evil 4 to see what it was like but I really don't like it anymore. It's just a negative experience.

I guess that's why I love games like katamari. The dude who made it just wants to make people happy and I genuenly feel happyness when I play that game. I remember feeling really down one day but when I played katamari I felt comfort in that something like katamari existed. It made me realize the world was not that bad.

Oh man that would be pretty bad. "hey you did a fantastic job on that that sculfuck animation! I'm sure you'll do an excelent job on our new game "sculfuck simulator XL". No need to pack your stuff we already moved your belongings to your new office. Congratulations kiddo. Welcome to the industry."

I think that is a bit strange because the Mortal Kombat fatalities are really over-the-top. Certainly not comparable to a slaughterhouse... But it depends on the person, I suppose.

As for the games without combat bit... I think there are plenty. Like Katamari. :)

Hm... Never thought about it much, maybe because I've never played many violent games to begin with. Yeah, we liked Mortal Kombat back when we were teens, but that was just one of countless games we played. No other game was nearly as violent... I suppose by the time more violent games started coming out, I was too busy emulating SNES and PS1 games to play those. And today, I barely have time for anything, and obviously violence would be the last thing to draw my attention.

Yeah there are enough nice games. :) But they always seem to be outnumbered by violent holywood like games.

I'm gonna buy it. But I know it's gonna be shit. Action combat does not belong in Final fantasy.

by buying it you are telling SE action combat is fine. Not that it matters much if you buy it or not. Everyone else will buy it anyways because of Tifa's boobs. (which do look fine I must say)

JRPG are a "special" genre. You will find 1 halfway decent one in every pile of 100. That doesn't really change if it's action or not. I can probably name only 2-3 in each I might consider good. Rengoku 2 is a good action. Phantasy Star series is also decent and by golly it actually works. There's also Dissidia but I dunno if that counts. It's unknown if it was developed as simply a melee brawler or fighting game, because chances are the same is not true of FF7 Remake.

I guess we shouldn't get our hopes up seeing as it's an FF7 Remake and the genre was changed. We can thus infer that the gameplay is by no means the game's USP and that cannot end well.

That can be said about anything nice... Books, music... People. :) The bad outnumbers the good by far.

There is no way the good books outnumber all those 80 cent smutty romance novels. Also there is way more bad music than good. I would not go so far as saying the majority of people are bad but they are definitly not my cup of tea.

People tend to forget the sea of bad to remember the good. For every katamari game there are 1000 crappy mobile games (including the crappy katamari mobile game).

I want to say no I refuse to buy episodes but I'm not sure I can resist an FFVII remake. I hate that they're doing it, but I want it bad.

Maybe the best option is to buy used so they don't get my money.

What!? lol 50 per episode? I guess they can get away with it because it's so popular. Then later when sales drop off they will make a complete edition for 40 and then maybe I'll buy it 2nd hand for 10 but by then I will probably have forgotten about it.

I can tell your excited though. It's okay. A full remake is pretty much what every ff7 fan dreams of every night.
