You may have noticed my playthrough thread of this wonderful game (http://betweenlifeandgames.com/forum/gaming-group2/game-reviews-playthroughs-forum7/tactics-ogre-let-us-cling-together-playthrough-spoilers-thread166.4). What I liked the most was the fact that the choices you made in the game completely changed everything, including the outcome. Nice 1995 contrast with contemporary games that brag about choice and then throw a "choose your colour" ending in your face.

Very good review. Just so you know, Lanselot and his running crew were protagonists in one of the Ogre Battle games that were before these (don't know which one, or if it was more than one, because I was never fond of the series). This was the first Tactics Ogre game (upon its initial release, of course). Ogre Battle played a lot differently, in that you did not directly control units in combat. Which is why I never warmed to the one I rented on SNES back in the day. Which is a shame, I guess, since if I owned it now I could sell it for a pretty penny.

Yeah, I knew they used to be protagonists... Would've been cool to play as Lanselot, but Canopus was pretty cool by himself, too (and the two white knights also joined later).

And what do you mean no controlling your own units in combat?! How exactly do you play then?

Make a party, they encounter enemies, the battle plays out without input from you, as I recall. Like that minigame in Dragon Quest 8 with the captured monsters that was arguably more fun than the main game, but still could be frustrating because of said lack of direct input. Ogre Battle was more of a pure turn-based strategy game series, the RPG elements were slim to nonexistent. Though again, this is going off a twenty year old memory of one weekend where I rented March of the Black Queen.

Ah, I can see why Tactics Ogre is considered a major image change of the series then. Certainly a change for the better...
