You probably saw my playthrough thread a couple of months ago: http://betweenlifeandgames.com/forum/gaming-group2/game-reviews-playthroughs-forum7/bioshock-playthrough-spoilers-thread273

I finally sat down and wrote a review today. I hope you like it! As mentioned during the playthrough, the game came short of my initial expectations.

So you liked BioShock? I'm now playing Deus Ex and it's so much more fun!

I loved it. And to be fair, the visuals were beyond stunning when it first came out. As for the big plot twist, I for one never saw it coming. And it was an interesting meta take on the illusion of choice in gaming.

If you have not tried the sequels, I can sum them up quick: Bioshock 2 had fun multiplayer but the campaign felt derivative, just a mirror reflection where the propaganda is super socialist instead of super libertarian. Not bad, but OK to skip. Bioshock Infinite, though, is a total head trip that is utterly fascinating, if occasionally dense (it puts the physics in metaphysics, to be sure). I still mull over the ending every now and then. And Elizabeth is a revelation as far as what a support NPC should be. Doesn't have to be protected constantly, provides help without being annoying, is written realistically...why couldn't it always be this way? It is a must-play. And since it does not reference Bioshock 2 at all, all the more reason to skip that one.

Maybe I'll play it one day. Not this year for sure.

I do agree with you that the no-penalty respawn was dumb. Why didn't all the people you killed get brought back in the same way? It just could have been handled better.
